Which is just where titles like the upcoming Forbidden Siren 2 comes in. Long before Resi 4 delighted us with its run-and-gun gameplay, Sony’s original in-house developed horror title had gamers shaking with fear, shimmying stealthily past the unstoppable undead and sight-jacking their way through an engrossing multi-character fiction of epic proportions. With the original director of Silent Hill at the helm, Forbidden Siren was an understandably eerie experience, but by general consensus harboured a few intrinsic character flaws which prevented it from being regarded an out-and-out classic.

The sequel, if reports are to be believed, fixes a few of these flaws, but on the whole opts for a more-of-the-same approach to scaring people witless - which makes it just as atmospheric as ever, in a completely different way to the Resident Evils of the world.

Chief amongst the improvements will be the telling of, what this time around, should be a considerably less confusing multi-tiered story. The Link Navigation system of old will return, with the different scenarios of each character held together once again by the scenario selection chart - although this time around the chart will be present from the very beginning of the game, which should make following all the plot threads significantly easier in the sequel than in the original.
